Arulmigu Somanatha Swamy Temple is located at Kolathur, Chennai. This temple was built about 300 years ago by a Shiva Nesar who was the zamindar of the town during the reign of Nawab of Arcot. There are two tanks in front of this temple. Lord Shiva appeared to the Moon in this Thiruthalam and the Moon is called Soman, hence the Main deity of this temple is called Somanathar and Ambikai as Amudambikai.According to the claim that the idol is small and the fame is great, the original idol of the temple is small but has an immense reputation. Since this temple is a lunar place, mentally retarded and mentally challenged people will get well if they worship this temple source. In Chennai, this place is considered to be the place of the moon among the Navagraha sites. View
